N F89-F Flat with Trailer, KCS #8580 (ATHGN14367)

An N-scale intermodal model pairing a F89-F flatcar with a 45-foot Fruehauf Z-Van trailer, road-numbered KCS 8580. Decorated and ready to run, this set recreates the classic intermodal equipment used from the 1960s through the 1980s. The F89-F flatcar features raised and lowered hitches, a die-cast underframe, wire-formed brake plumbing, and a detailed deck, plus 70-ton roller-bearing trucks and separately applied brake hardware, ladders, and grab irons. It rides on machined metal wheels with RP25 contours and uses body-mounted operating scale knuckles with ballast weight for stable handling. Designed for dedicated intermodal trains or mixed freight on modern or vintage-era layouts, the model ships fully decorated and ready to run, with a highly detailed injection-molded body and a minimum radius of 22 inches (24 inches or larger recommended).

Included is a newly tooled, first-time offering in N scale: the 45-foot Fruehauf Z-Van trailer, available in two body styles—smooth-sided and rib-sided. It features separately applied wire landing gear crank and mud flaps, wheel-style landing gear or prototype-style shoe gear, and positionable bogies, all wrapped in a finely detailed injection-molded body. This trailer pairs with the F89-F flatcar to depict intermodal service used from the 1970s to the 2000s, delivering a durable, visually authentic centerpiece for long intermodal trains on an N-scale layout. The combination captures the era’s look and operating feel, making it a compelling addition to era-accurate scenes wherever intermodal traffic is on the move.
