NSC 6000 Gondola with Load (ATHGN6723)

NSC 6000 Gondola with Load is a highly detailed model that recreates National Steel Car’s 6,000 cubic-foot capacity gondola. Part of the Athearn Genesis line, it includes a removable scrap load for realistic bulk cargo display and a suite of prototypical details such as separately applied metal grab irons, etched crossover platforms where applicable, and accurate brake piping in metal and plastic. Bent-wire coupler cut levers and rubber train-line hoses also contribute to on-layout realism.

On the track the car rides on screw-mounted 100-ton roller bearing trucks with body-mounted McHenry lower shelf knuckle couplers for secure operation. Machined metal wheels with RP25 contours roll smoothly, while the injection-molded body is highly detailed and accurately painted and printed for lifelike appearance. Weighted for optimum performance, this model is designed to handle everyday layout use and display with confidence. National Steel Car produced these 6,000 cubic-foot gondolas in the late 2010s, and Genesis tooling faithfully reproduces the prototype’s scale, full brake rigging, grab irons, and etched crossover platforms to enrich a modern-era roster.
