The HO AAR 70-ton Triple Hopper in the Chicago & North Western (CNW) livery represents a significant segment of North America's freight car fleet. With origins dating back to the late 1930s, these hoppers were integral to railroads, comprising about 6% of all open hoppers at their peak. Used predominantly for transporting bulk commodities such as coal, gravel, and coke, this model pays homage to the over 33,000 cars built for around 30 different railroads throughout their operational lifespan.

Broadway Limited’s model is meticulously scaled from original blueprints, ensuring an accurate rendition of the prototype. It features fine rivet detailing throughout both the interior and exterior, as well as wire grab irons and separate brake line and hoses. The model offers diverse options for brake housings and wheels, including Ajax and Miner options, as well as newly-tooled trucks designed with solid and roller bearings.

Each car includes details like brake shoe and brake beam details on the trucks, along with metal wheelsets featuring prototypical contours. Factory-equipped with Kadee-compatible knuckle couplers, these hoppers come with a removable ABS coal load and a detailed interior. The set includes four uniquely numbered cars, showcasing fine printing that accurately reproduces builders’ stencils and other minor lettering, making it a valuable addition to any HO scale collection.
