HO RF-16 Sharknose Locomotive A USAF RF-390 (BLI8290)

The HO RF-16 Sharknose Locomotive A, USAF RF-390, Shark is a remarkable model that captures the unique design and historical significance of the RF-16 locomotives built by Baldwin Locomotive Works from 1950 to 1953. With its distinctive contours reminiscent of the T1 class steam locomotive, it offers a quintessential piece of railroad history. A total of 160 units were produced, including A-units and cabless booster B-units, primarily for the Pennsylvania Railroad, but also for Baltimore and Ohio and New York Central railroads.

Known for their impressive hauling capacity, these locomotives earned a reputation for being robust workhorses, especially in transporting heavy ore and coal. The RF-16s outperformed many contemporaries with their powerful engines and were equipped for enduring service. Broadway Limited presents these models in several prototypically accurate paint schemes, along with fantasy liveries that keep the allure of the Sharknose design alive.

The model features precision engineering designed for smooth operation and heavy towing, making it suitable for serious enthusiasts. It includes an 8-ohm speaker for easy DCC and sound decoder installation, ensuring connectivity right out of the box. Other highlights include all-wheel electrical pick-up, ABS body with a die-cast chassis, and directional lights, proving that it does not only look great but performs exceptionally as well.
