The Amtrak 566 EMD SW7 Switcher in Phase III scheme is a DCC-ready, no-sound locomotive designed to capture the look and feel of a classic yard switcher, with the option to add sound later. The real SW7 delivered about 1,200 horsepower and this model reflects the familiar 44-foot length and B-B truck arrangement, including distinguishing features such as a full-height radiator grill and straight cab-window tops. Out of the box, front and rear lights are directional while other lights illuminate with track power, and an 8-ohm speaker is installed to simplify adding a DCC/Sound decoder when desired.

Built for steady switching performance, the model uses an ABS body with a die-cast chassis for weight and traction, plus all-wheel electrical pick-up and a precision drive for heavy towing and smooth slow-speed operation. It includes MicroTrains-compatible couplers, runs on Code 55, 70 and 80 rails, and has a 9-inch minimum radius. The finish features premium painting with prototypically accurate road numbers and multiple separately applied details such as grab irons, horns, and a bell. It is offered in several prototypical paint schemes—including Amtrak 566 in Phase III—and also as a Christmas Holiday theme to broaden display possibilities.
