Union Pacific 2-8-8-0 Bullmoose Locomotive Pre-1944 Appearance (BLI9420)

The Union Pacific 2-8-8-0 Bullmoose locomotives, known as the "Consolidation Mallets", were originally designed to handle heavy freight trains efficiently on steep grades. Developed by the Union Pacific and Great Northern railroads, these locomotives were nicknamed "Bullmoose" due to their impressive pulling power across challenging routes, especially the Sherman Hill between Cheyenne and Laramie, Wyoming. The Bullmoose first entered service in 1918, with a total of 70 units built either in Union Pacific shops or by the American Locomotive Company (Alco). Over the years, they received numerous upgrades before being replaced by more advanced models like the Big Boys and Challengers.

This model represents a pre-1944 appearance of the 2-8-8-0 design, featuring the all-new Paragon4 sound and control system that offers synchronized puffing smoke alongside chuff sound. Engineered for impressive slow-speed operation, it includes an integral DCC decoder along with precision drive mechanisms, ensuring smooth performance even under heavy loads. The meticulously crafted model showcases prototypically accurate details, including handcrafted brass components and premium caliber painting with authentic schemes, perfectly capturing the essence of this iconic locomotive series.
