HO RND 36' Old Time Box Car Plastic Model Kit (RND-2349)

The HO RND 36' Old Time Box Car is a model that captures the essence of early railroading. Boxcars are one of the most recognizable symbols of the railroad industry, and this model showcases a typical turn-of-the-century design with its distinctive truss rod underframe. Rail freight history indicates that during the early years of the industry, freight was mainly transported on flatcars or gondolas. It was in Upstate New York where the Mohawk & Hudson Railroad innovated by covering gondolas in 1833 to protect the freight from the snow, leading to further developments in boxcar design over the years.

This model features archbar trucks and 33” machined metal wheels that adhere to RP25 contours, ensuring both realism and functionality. The boxcar is weighted for optimum performance, and it includes separately applied brake wheels for added detail. To enhance operational capabilities, it is equipped with body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers. The highly-detailed, injection-molded body is painted and printed for realistic decoration, and it has a minimum radius requirement of 18 inches, making it suitable for various model railroad layouts.
