HO PFE R-40-28 Reefer 1966 Repaint 6-Pack (RPI196103)

An HO-scale plastic model of the Pacific Fruit Express R-40-28 refrigerated car in a 1966 repaint, sold as a six-car set. These ice-cooled reefers were part of the late PFE fleet, and the kit features the distinctive 6-foot sliding plug-door paired with a 2-foot hinged door that helped regulate loading and interior temperature. Rapido’s HO-scale plastic release marks the first time these cars have been offered in plastic for model railroads.

Designed for realistic operation on HO layouts, each car is accurately scaled from prototype plans and field measurements. Details include separate wire grab irons, correct running boards and brake wheels, and properly modeled cooling fan housings keyed to each road number. The roof hatches are positionable, and the set uses semi-scale metal couplers with free-rolling trucks and turned metal wheels.
