Commonly known as the 44-tonner, these locomotives were built to be operated by a single engineer, making tight spaces and short runs practical for industrial and shop settings. From all-new tooling, the Rapido Trains HO-scale GE 44-Tonner offers multiple phase variations and fine detail, including Phase Ic (with or without lighted hood-side number boards), Phase III with positionable top hood hatches, and Phase IV. A heavy die-cast chassis and fuel tank, plus two fuel-tank skirt styles and separately attached door latches, contribute to realistic proportions. The model also features a full cab interior and photo-etched cab steps for added realism; a smooth-running coreless motor with dual flywheels provides reliable operation. DC versions are ready for DCC with NEXT-18 sockets, while DCC-equipped versions include ESU sound decoders and a Mo-Power power capacitor for authentic in-motion sound and performance.
