1/48 Lockheed P-38 J Lightning Plastic Model Kit (TAM61123)

This 1/48-scale plastic model kit recreates the Lockheed P-38 Lightning in its late-war J variant, offering a faithful, display-ready representation for scale modelers. It captures the distinctive twin-engine, twin-tail design with detailed radiator fairings and larger engine cowlings, plus realistic intercooler-to-oil cooler ducting and newly depicted turbo superchargers. Two canopy configurations are included, featuring a flat-front glass canopy with a two-part third canopy for a closed look and an open/closed option with a one-piece slide-molded closed canopy plus a three-part assembly for an opened canopy.

Inside, the cockpit boasts separate side walls with a throttle box and radio, complemented by the Lynn-3 gunsight and back-of-cockpit radio. The kit also updates the nose gear fork and main gear struts for a solid, balanced stance, while a wing spar helps ensure the correct dihedral angle. Parts to recreate two each of 150- and 300-gallon drop tanks are provided, along with weights to balance the model. Three marking options—including the famous Marge P-38J flown by ace Richard Bong—are included, plus canopy masking stickers and a full-color painting guide to help achieve a museum-quality finish.
